When you reach out, the first step is a straightforward conversation — understanding your property, your goals, and whether we may be a good fit for your project. I can answer questions, talk through typical site challenges, and explain what the process looks like. The deeper design, technical planning, and project development happen during a paid Design and Planning phase tailored specifically to your property.
If you have a hillside lot, steep grade change, tight access corridor, or complex engineering requirements — that is exactly the kind of project I’ve built my reputation on. And if you’re looking for a beautifully designed family pool on a straightforward lot, I build those too — with the same attention to detail and personal oversight.

What Happens Next
Building a custom pool is a significant investment — in time, money, and trust. Here is exactly how my process works so there are no surprises.
Phase 1 — Complimentary Site Consultation
I come out to your property, walk the lot with you, listen to your vision, and give you a straight assessment of what can be built and what it will take to do it right. We talk through the technical realities of your specific site — grade, access, soil conditions, and structural requirements. This is a professional consultation. There is no obligation. It is simply an opportunity to meet in person, visually evaluate the site, and determine if we’re a good fit to move forward.
Phase 2 — Design & Planning (Paid, Credited Toward Construction)
If you decide to move forward, we enter a Design and Planning Agreement. I develop your project in full 3D — every curve, grade transition, and retaining system designed specifically for your vision. The fee is based on complexity and is credited 100% toward your construction contract. This phase is what separates a properly designed pool from one built without proper planning.
Phase 3 — Construction
Once the design is approved, the quote accepted, and the contract is signed, I handle permitting and schedule construction. I am on site throughout — not managing from an office. Every phase, every payment, and every change is documented in writing. If something comes up, I deal with it directly. That is how I have built my reputation over 35 years — one project at a time.
A Note on Availability
I personally oversee every phase of every project — from the first site visit through final startup. That level of involvement requires being intentional about the number of projects I take on each year. It’s not about how many pools I build. It’s about how well I build each one. If your timeline is flexible, that is worth mentioning when you reach out.
Is This the Right Fit?
I work best with homeowners who value long-term quality and want a builder who is personally invested in the outcome. If your priority is the fastest turnaround or the lowest bid, I am probably not the right fit. If you want a pool that is properly engineered, thoughtfully designed, and built to perform for decades — let’s talk.
“We wanted a lap pool with an attached spa on an almost solid rock ridge. Not a simple request, but Jim was always very upbeat that we could get it done. We were swimming on Christmas Eve. Our county inspector told us he had not seen a pool get built this quickly in his memory.”
